My Birthday Present
My Birthday Present
When I first moved to Idaho when I was a youngster I was able to work full time and split a winter’s worth of firewood with no problem at all. Now that I’m old I find that my stamina lasts only about two hours or so per day when it comes to splitting firewood. On our way home from the Oregon coast I remarked to Cheri that I was intending to purchase a log splitter soon after we arrived back home. Our youngest, Ricky, was there when we arrived, and he seemed a bit more excited than usual to see us. He told us that there was a problem in the back yard, and with a bit of trepidation we followed him through the fence to something large covered with a blue tarp.
Imagine my shock when he removed the tarp to reveal my birthday present, a new 27-ton log splitter! He told me that he had been wanting to get me one for a long time. Of course, he demonstrated how to operate the beast, which ran through several rounds in seconds. I sure am glad that I did not order my splitter while in Oregon as I was thinking of doing.
What a wonderful son we have; very thoughtful, and just the best!
