The Annual Mother’s Day Trip

This gathering with friends, old and new, has become a regular event for many years.

New Friends Join The Group

Sandy reserved a block of sites for the group. We were at one end of the block in #148. Regulars include Randy and Sandy, Butch and Kathy, and of course Cheri and I. New friends are Tim and Mandy who were in the site next to us, and Craig and Jan in their motorhome at the other end of the block.

The Weather Was Not Ideal

We had 38 mph gusts and 20-30 mph steady wind. Opening the door against that wind almost pushed me off my own stairs, but we made it work. This was the first time I had seen the router antenna waving in the wind! It also rained during some of the time so we spent a significant amount of time in the rigs, However, there were periods of beautiful weather! We were able to have fires on two occasions. The First was almost ideal, but the second was a bit breezy and quite cold.

The Day Before Mother’s Day

Breakfast was at our rig because it was too cold and windy outside.  Jan made breakfast burritos and jokingly Butch asked it she had any without eggs. The joke is that Butch was supposed to make something without eggs and someone got the idea it was because Butch had given up eating eggs lol! Mandy brought sausages, and Jan again brought sparkling wine for mimosas.

It is still windy and cold so we are staying inside.  Randy and the guys were on a road trip to check out potential places to fish and the girls went to Butch’s trailer to visit while I finished up with the survey on Cheri’s site.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Cheri and I got up a bit after 8am and started right in with coffee because we are scheduled to have Mother’s Day brunch at 10:30. I was in charge of the hash browns and I made 3 boxes which disappeared fast so next time I should make bauern fruhstuck or somehow double the hash browns. The problem is that making hash browns is time intensive and keeping them hot and crisp is a bit of a challenge.

I walked over a bit after 10:30 and the guys were ready to get started. The girls started coming over and we had a photo shoot to capture the moment. We set up outside because it was sunny and not too windy. The guys sat on one side and the gals on the other. Randy made Eggs Benedict using sliced ham as a shell and he made an excellent Hollandaise sauce.  He gave me two portions and they were delicious.

There was also a mixed fruit bowl, and Butch made a nice charcuterie slab with various meats and cheeses. Jan brought two more bottles of sparkling wine and we again did mimosas. Everything was great!
