A new Canon Lens

I received the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens this Christmas and I have been playing with it as much as time allows. Although it is quite heavy to carry, the optics are reportedly fantastic and bring the wildlife and landscape photos I enjoy capturing to life.

Why a new lens?

Before the new lens, I owned two wide angle zoom lenses. On is another “L” lens, the 24-105 mm. The other is a 24 – 200 mm lens. Each of those lenses has their strengths and weaknesses.  The new lens sports fantastic optics and and reaches much further for those great images.  Exceptional wildlife images are now possible.

Besides the new lens, what else is needed?

Canon’s Digital Photo Professional post-processing software is necessary to produce pictures as perfect as possible. The software is free to purchasers of a Canon camera. It can be downloaded from the Canon site. I have installed the software and started using it a day or two ago.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens Summary

This lens is the nicest lens I have ever used. Although I have not had a chance to test in a variety of conditions, I am sure it will expand my photographic horizons tremendously.
