Butte Montana: World Museum of Mining
The Area is Definitely Worth a Visit, More Than Once
One of my favorite cities to visit in the Pacific Northwest is Butte, Montana, and definitely a “must see” is the World Museum of Mining. We took this trip back in 2007, and the beauty of it all is that it remains as pristine now as it did 15 years ago. Less than a days drive to Butte over the Continental Divide you can find lodging and of course an RV park or two. The Butte KOA, which opens April 15th is the best RV park we have found.
This is a photo album of a few of the picture from ’07, and the museum remains much remains, with a few additions. In 2007 I was using a Canon Rebel XTi so the image quality is not as good as it could be. I’m now using a full-frame Canon 6D and would like to revisit the museum, particularly because they are now offering guided tours deep inside the onsite mine that were not available back in 2007. We took that tour into the mine years ago, but sadly I had a hard drive crash and lost those images. At the time they has a real miner giving the tour, and he could answer any questions.

Other things to do in Butte
One of the more interesting places to eat not far from the KOA is a the Freeway Tavern, which the locals call Muzzy’s ( did that Tripadvisor review back in ’16). Although a “tavern”, it is family friendly. There you can get one of their signature dishes which is most excellent – their pork chop sandwich called the “Wop Chop“, the name of which has an interesting history. Another place deeper in town called Pork Chop John’s is more famous, but not nearly as good.
There is so much more Butte has to offer, and you can look forward to more albums of our adventures in that historical town, including our visits to the Irish Festival, the underground tour in downtown, and in nearby Anaconda, an old prison museum, and even a car museum.
