Roman Nose Lakes

Located in the Selkirk Mountains, the Roman Nose Lakes trail is about 4 miles round trip. The trail is relatively easy and in the fall, huckleberry picking is not bad (depending on the year). The drive from Coeur d’Alene is about 2.5 hours north in the Bonner’s Ferry area.

We have visited this area a couple of times with good friends Randy and Sandy. This was our first visit back in 2005 and we had a great time. Randy is an avid fisherman so he had fun throwing out a line while the rest of us prepared our snack after that long hike up the mountain. We visited Roman Nose again in 2008 and were able to harvest a good amount of huckleberries along the trail.

The Roman Nose Lakes is an easy, well-traveled trail system sending hikers into the heart of some of the most beautiful terrain in the Selkirks. Nested beneath the towering presence of 7,260-ft Roman Nose Peak, the trailhead offers hikers access to three different lakes. Camping is only available at the trailhead facilities in designated areas near the main lake due to the popularity of this location.

Caution

One caution though, this is considered bear and wolf country. Reportedly the trail is well traveled by explorers, but we did not see any animals during the times we visited.
